Budding Scientists Enjoy Experimenting!

The Riverbank Science Club Showcase Their Work.

The Riverbank Science Club were keen to show off what they had been finding out about this term. Group meet weekly but alternate between in school activities and activities at Satrosphere. They are well looked after by Mrs Henderson and Miss Dezall.

Two of the main activities were Tower Building and Alien Soup…my that sounds interesting though it may not be too tasty methinks!

Tower Building

Using art straws and sellotape, teams had to work out which was the strongest shape – a rectangle or a triangle.  They then had to use what they had learned to build the tallest but strongest tower that they could.  The towers were put to the test at the end by Mrs Henderson and her hairdryer!  The teams were surprised at how successful they had been in building towers that could not be blown away!

Alien Soup

This term, Science Club members voted to learn about space.  During this session, we followed a recipe to make Alien Soup out of sand, straws, paperclips and water – yum!  Unfortunately, we read the recipe wrong.  We had to use what we knew about separating materials to separate out all of the ingredients.  It was messy but we managed it using filters, magnets and tweezers!

Our young scientists are always so enthusiastic but how they could have thought Alien Soup should be on the menu, I just don’t know!
