Welcome to P1Mc

Welcome to Primary 1Mc, I hope you have had a good summer and are ready for a fun and busy year ahead in Primary 1! Below you will find some useful information for you and your child starting school.

Indoor Shoes

We like to keep the carpets nice and clean in our classroom so we have more space for having fun and learning. Could you please ensure your child comes to school with a comfortable pair of indoor shoes that they can put on/ take off themselves. These will be worn in the classroom and gym hall and stay in your child’s named box in the peg area.

 PE Kit

We will have PE on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure your child has a PE kit with them on these days including shorts, t-shirt and their indoor shoes.

 Healthy Snack

We are a health promoting school and like to encourage healthy eating from a young age. Please ensure your child has a healthy snack with them for break time, for example, a piece of fruit and a bottle of water to keep them hydrated is ideal. Please also consider the amount they are given to eat as break time is only 15 minutes long and we would like lots of time to play too!

 Homework

Formal homework will not be given until later in the term. However, in the meantime, there are some activities you can carry out at home to help your child in school such as:

  • Reading together at bedtime or another point during the day
  • Singing nursery rhymes to practice rhyming skills
  • Encourage drawing, gluing, sticking and other similar activities
  • Counting –we are starting to learn our numbers to 10 in class so some extra practice would be great!

 Class Dojo

We have been using Class Dojo to earn points for all the great things we do in class! This works great and allows parents to see it at home too. Some of the things you might see us earn points for are:

  • Good sitting on the carpet
  • Working hard
  • Helping each other
  • Good manners
  • Fantastic tidying up
  • Team work
  • Getting ready quickly
  • Healthy snack

When your child reaches 100 Dojo points, they will earn a special prize for all their fantastic behavior.

We will also be using Class Dojo to take pictures of the brilliant work we do in class, it would be great if parents could join and see what we have been doing too!

Please note that Class Dojo is not to be used for messaging. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with myself at the beginning or end of the day, or the school office.

 Rainbow Time

Your child can earn up to 10 minutes per day of Rainbow Time for good behavior. If your child has earned all their Rainbow Time they will have a well-deserved 50 minute play time on a Friday afternoon!

We have had a great start to primary 1 and I look forward to getting to know your children better and having a great year together of playing and learning.

I understand that starting primary 1 is a big step for both you and your child so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries, concerns or something you would like to discuss with me. You know your child best so your knowledge is a great addition to our fun and learning.

I look forward to speaking to you more throughout the year.

Thanks,

Miss McLaren.
