Filtering & Separation Experiments
Xodus Engineering Engage with Riverbank’s Young Engineers!!!
On Friday 13th March, P2/3 had a very special visit from four employees of local Engineering company Xodus. They told us a little about their jobs – turning oil into useful things like toothpaste, petrol and plastic – and showed us how to filter dirty water using different layers of materials. Next, they set us a challenge! We had to make valves (a special name for a tap) using only paper cups, paper, sellotape and scissors! We had to be able to turn our valves on and off so that lentils could come out of our cups.
We also had time to work with the group leader Caroline. She taught us about oil and water – we learned that they don’t like to mix and made our own colourful separators to take home!
We had great fun learning about the interesting things Engineers can do in their jobs and all of our valves and separators worked. Watch this space for the next generation of Engineers from Riverbank!
Have a look at our photos to see how hard we worked, how much fun we had and what we made!
