Some pupils across P5,6 and 7 have been training hard over the last 4 weeks, under the watchful gaze of their trainer/coach, Miss Holmes, to prepare for the Albyn & Robert Gordon College Open Cross Country Championships. This event was open to all schools in Aberdeen and 40 schools from across the city took part. There were, literally, hundreds of runners at the event. The runners were divided into 12 groups of around 150 runners in each race.

The day of the cross country came around fast.  It was the morning of Friday 13th of March.  We took a bus to the event, which was held at the Balgownie Playing Fields at Bridge of Don, and all made sure we had appropriate clothing as it was very cold outside!  Each group of runners had a time slot and it was very nerve-wracking waiting for your turn!  All who took part were very supportive of one another and if they weren’t involved in warming up for the race, they were cheering one another on – what a great team spirit!

The distance run by each child was 1800m, that’s more than a mile, and they all made a fantastic effort to get to the end in good times.  We were all exhausted after the event but are looking forward to having a go again next year!  Well done team!
