Primary 7 Leavers’ & Award Winners Assembly

Riverbank says, “Cheerio!” to the Primary 7s

Friday saw the annual Primary 7s Leavers’ and Award Winners’ Assembly. We were fortunate to have Rev Jim Weir from St George’s Church Tillydrone with us, along with Bill Mitchell from Tillydrone Vision. Graeme and Rob from PDA who help with football and health and fitness coaching and our former Depute, Marlyn Grant, who were all there to help out with our assembly.

Rev Weir spoke about changes and making new friends and likened our P7s moving to the academies as when he moved from Glasgow to Aberdeen to take up his position in Tillydrone.

Graeme and Rob presented footballs and water bottles to the footballers who had remained loyal and persevered throughout the year. Special mention was made of three very dedicated boys who will be moving to the St Machar Academy after the holidays, but who Graeme and Rob would be happy to see helping them with the next batch of would be footballers.

Marlyn Grant, or Miss Grant as we remember her, came in to present the Marlyn Grant Quaiche, which is awarded to the pupil who has made excellent academic progress.

Bill Mitchell from Tillydrone Vision presented the Tillydrone Vision Award which goes to the pupil who has been a good citizen.

There was a surprise award from the coaches at the Sport Village and Aberdeen University in conjunction with Saltire Energy, for a pupil who had shown greatest determination to succeed in learning to swim.

Miss Mitchell gave out certificates for the Science Champions. The Primary 6 pupils worked to prepare two science lessons and to teach those lessons to the children in Primary 1a. They soon realised what a difficult task teaching can be!

Mrs Sunley presented two pupils with a special RRSA certificate for being the two pupils who have shown just what true RR pupils they are.

Mr O’Sullivan was on  hand to present some medals for the pupils who took part in an inter-school football tournament and he said how the other teams had been very impressed with our girl team member. Just goes to show, that the girls can be part of the football team.

I (Mrs Baxter) was very proud to be asked to present the House Cup to Hayton House, this year’s winners. The two House Captains, who had done a great job throughout the year were on hand to accept the trophy on behalf of Hayton House. It was a double pleasure for me, as Hayton House is the house to which I am allocated. I would also like to make special mention of all the House Captains who did such a good job in ensuring that everyone in their respective Houses knew what they had to do on House Meetings Day. I would also like to thank all of the staff for their help at House Meetings where we have a mixture of children from P1-P7 and a short period of time to complete a task. This was the third year that the House Cup has been presented and there have been three different winners. 2013 was St Machar, 2014 was Seaton and 2015 was Hayton so being magnanimous, perhaps Kings’ name is already on the cup for next year. Let’s hope that everyone works very hard to gain points for their House next session.

Mrs Ironside gave out the last of the staff Achievement Certificates and was on the receiving end of one, too.

Congratulations to all the award winners and to Team Riverbank, in general.

And…finally, thank you to all of the parents and carers who attended the Assembly and we are, now, looking forward to the holidays and recharging our batteries before coming back for the new academic session and all the new adventures that are in store for us. There’s never a dull moment at Riverbank!
