Diamond Bridge Opening
Thursday 9 June 2016 marked the opening of the Third Don Crossing or, giving it its proper title, the Diamond Bridge. The pupils of Riverbank and Danestone Schools were asked to vote on the name of the new bridge and Diamond Bridge came out the winner.
The two schools were asked to attend the official opening of the bridge and we gave two pupils to stand with the leader of the Council, Jenny Laing, and help her as she cut the ribbon to open the bridge.
The two schools lined either side of the bridge and I’ve never seen so many flags, with diamond designs on them, being waved. After a short speech and cutting of the ribbon, the Lord Provost became the first person to cross the river by car when he was chauffeur driven across the new bridge.
Let’s hope that the bridge will be an asset to the community.
