P6S Learning to Swim with Saltire Energy’s Funding

Did someone say free swimming lessons?!?

Yes please….sign me up!

P6S have been writing thank you letters to  Saltire Swimming Co-coordinator Gillian Kerr  at the University of Aberdeen.

We need to give a special BIG THANK YOU to Saltire Energy for their continued support.

This is a brilliant project, where every single person can learn to swim: The Saltire Sports for Schools Project was launched by Mike Loggie, CEO of Saltire Energy, in 2009, and is supported by Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) and the University of Aberdeen. It is run annually at ASV. Saltire Energy has financially supported the scheme to date and funding is secured through to 2018.

It provides local school children with the opportunity to enjoy a wealth of sporting activities at Scotland’s premier sports facility. The project aims to enhance curricular physical education through access to ASV and specialist PE teaching. It gives pupils from St Peters, Riverbank, Sunnybank, Seaton and Hanover Street Primary Schools, the chance to participate in sports they may not otherwise have been exposed to including; athletics, dance, football, basketball, badminton, swimming, table tennis, hockey and gymnastics, as well as a range of inter-school tournaments.

Trevor our class dragon mascot has been enjoying her free swimming lessons too   🙂

A Great Start to the New Term in P6S

We have had a really busy start to Primary 6 and we have all settled down into our new class well.

We have been find out about our new topic “The World” firstly we had to draw a picture of the world then label everything we know.

We have been looking at the different continents of the world, finding out where they are and what they are called. We did some research on the equator and different oceans in the world.

Speaking of oceans – P6S have been going swimming on a Thursday at ASV Aquatics center – this is sponsored by Saltire Oil and Gas company. We love our swimming and are building out confidence within the water.

Mr. Scott has been super excited about introducing “learn its” into class! Its been very messy to set up, however,  everyone is now working hard practicing their timetables within class!

Bring on the top scores in the Big Math’s Beat That Test!!
