Knitting Takes Off at Riverbank!<\/h3>\n

Riverbank has its very own HUB; a lunchtime\u00a0meeting place for children who find it difficult to spend all lunchtime in the playground. Mrs Leith,\u00a0Laura and Wendy are the adults\u00a0manning the HUB at lunch.<\/p>\n

Mrs Leith started up a ‘wee’ project , encouraging children to learn how to knit. This project has mushroomed into something a lot bigger than anyone at Riverbank could ever have anticipated. The ‘Learners’ started off by knitting a square but also encouraged others to join in.\u00a0The question was, ‘What do we do with the squares as we don’t want them to go to waste?’<\/p>\n

Mrs Leith suggested that children could join the squares to make a blanket…..what to do with the blankets?<\/p>\n

Further research by the intrepid Mrs Leith put her in touch with F.R.O.M. Scotland, a charity based in the north east of Scotland which provides\u00a0Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi. They would be delighted to take some of our small blankets with them when they next set off to Malawi.<\/p>\n

The children have had a visit from another knitter for FROM and they are delighted that their hard work will be put to such\u00a0a good cause.<\/p>\n

On a slightly different note, to see our children engaged in knitting, sewing and now embroidery is great. The group has\u00a0grown larger and\u00a0children gather in classes at lunchtime to knit and when the weather is good some of them can be found knitting together in the courtyard.<\/p>\n
