\"Banner<\/a>Riverbank School was represented at Aberdeen’s Eco City Awards 2015 by Billy Swan, Dionne Dunbar and Mrs Sunley. Riverbank had been short-listed in the Junior Aberdeen in Bloom category for our summer trugs which were part of our outdoor learning initiative.<\/p>\n

The award ceremony was held in the Town House and our representatives were in awe of the decoration and surroundings. It was a first time visit to the Town House for all of the Riverbank visitors.<\/p>\n

They were welcomed into the awards area along with other nominees for the various categories and ‘refreshments’ were available and I’m sure they all partook of some. Being a bit like the Oscars, our trio of would be winners were rather nervous when it came to the reading out the nominees in their category, and then the runner-up and then finally the relief, excitement and pride they felt when Riverbank was announced as the winner. This is what the judges said about our entry, “Classes in Riverbank school were set the challenge of designing and planting their own class trug as a way of enhancing and encouraging outdoor learning! The finished designs were displayed in and used to launch the opening of our ‘Wee Green Spaces’ area! The enthusiasm and dedication from all classes was fantastic!\u00a0 This started a buzz for outdoor education which has continued!”<\/strong>\u00a0The presentation group even had slides of the photographs we have on the school website of all our fantastic trugs.<\/p>\n

Billy and Dionne went up to collect the award, on behalf of everyone at Riverbank,from Councillor Neil Cooney who is on the Education and Children’s services Committee as well as being the Convener of the Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Committee.Needless to say after the ‘official’ presentation, they had to have their ‘official’ photograph taken and have a chat with some of the ‘VIPs’ who were in attendance.<\/p>\n

Billy and Dionne arrived back at Riverbank with a lovely certificate but, and you’ll never guess, we will also receive a cheque for \u00a31000 to further develop our outdoor learning!!!!!!<\/p>\n

I would say that we have some great new outdoor learning projects up our sleeves for the New Year so watch this space!!!<\/p>\n

A great big well done to all at Riverbank we are so proud of our achievements!!!<\/p>\n
