While Mr Nicoll is experiencing technical difficulties with the Primary 4 Class Blog, I am posting some news for him on the main website. I should add that Miss Robertson and I are experiencing similar difficulties, in that we cannot access the P6-7B Class Blog either. We’re hoping that these situations will be resolved in the near future.<\/p>\n
Anyway back to Primary 4s Outdoor Education. Mr Nicoll’s class worked with Juliet Robertson in the courtyard. They were able to build shelters and enjoyed working together, cooperatively, to carry out their tasks. Juliet had brought resources from other schools. The children in those schools had enjoyed using these resources for imaginative play. The creative thinking, problem solving, imaginative work as well as thinking about the dangers and risks involved in this type of play as well as the ‘boundaries’ for the children were all part of the learning process. Juliet gave the children minimal input… mainly safety instructions before being encouraging them to experiment with the wide range of materials available. The adults watched on, intrigued, as the children created characters from their favourite Disney films, built dens from tarpaulin, pegs and wooden sticks, engaged in friendly battle with foam rods and made Crystal Maze type water channels with bamboo canes.<\/p>\n
The children thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor learning session, evident from the amount of positive feedback that Juliet received. Hopefully Juliet will come back next term with some more exciting materials for the children to play with. Who knows what the children might come up with?<\/p>\n
