At Riverbank, we were very aware of how much time the children had spent on the Wishing Well Project and so World Book Day was to be celebrated in a lower key this year. Nevertheless, there were some fantastic pieces of work going on in the classes throughout Riverbank to celebrate our love of books and not just World Book Day!<\/p>\n

The children in Mrs Smith’s class had a great time reading The Gruffalo and even getting dressed up as the Gruffalo. Other classes spent time reading to each other and we even had a Tiger Who Came to Tea!<\/p>\n

Primary 3a are reading The Magic Faraway Tree with Miss Rowley and for Book Week 2016 Moonface, one of the characters in the story, sent the boys and girls a letter asking them to help him solve a problem. How lucky were they?The children worked together really well and they used their knowledge of the book and their design skills to build a solution for Moonface.\u00a0Well done P3a!<\/p>\n

One of our Pupil Interest Groups is the Library Group and they are hoping to start an author of the month and or a book of the month activity. They have also said that they would like to upgrade the books in the library but they have urged us to look after our library and ensure that books are put back neatly and in the proper places.<\/p>\n

We even have a display down the nursery corridor of the books which the staff are reading. I always find it fascinating to see who reads what! I bet you wouldn’t guess who reads the murder mysteries and who reads the biographies or who reads the non-fiction and who reads the romance novels…YEUCH! Well you know it’s not me who’s reading the romance novels.<\/p>\n

You can get so much pleasure and enjoyment from reading and, trust me, the book’s always better than the film! Why not watch the film and read the book afterwards or read the book alongside the film? The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is being read by some of the P6-7s just now and they hope to watch the film too. David Walliams, the comedian, writes children’s books and he is very popular with our children. Two favourites which I have read to classes are Mr Stink and The Demon Dentist.<\/p>\n

Why not use your book token and buy one of these great books or even take a trip to the library and maybe mum or dad, grandma or granda could choose a book to read too!<\/p>\n
