You may have heard about Fairtrade Fortnight and Fairtrade goods before but this year, we at Riverbank decided that we’d like to find out more about Fairtrade.<\/p>\n
Steve Roberts and Hannes came in, from the Montgomery Centre, to tell us more about Fairtrade and they also explained how it linked with the United Nations Global Goals. Steve and Hannes then carried out some workshops with some of the classes and Riverbank is now keen to become a Fairtrade School. The staff are keen to support Fairtrade, too and they hope to move to Fairtrade tea and coffee for their breaks.<\/p>\n

Steve and Hannes’ talks were entertaining and informative as usual and now I think I will buy more Fairtrade goods to help children in other parts of the world have a better life.<\/p>\n
Never ones to look far for an excuse, the children were also treated to a bar of Fairtrade chocolate. It was delicious. Oops! I’m not supposed to have had one.!<\/p>\n

Fairtrade Fortnight for 2016 ran from 29 February until 11 March. The children found out what Fairtrade was all about and participated in a number of activities about Fairtrade. This year Fairtrade suggested having a Fairtrade breakfast. We thought this was a great idea but it proved very difficult to organise so, instead, Riverbank was to have a Fairtrade snack time. The big ‘advert’ for Fairtrade is bananas and we thought that we could all have a Fairtrade banana for break. Wednesday 9 March was designated our Fairtrade break day. The next question was, where could we source our bananas. Mrs Sunley contacted the Tillydrone Co-op and after explaining why she wanted 300 bananas, the Co-op, very kindly, offered to donate the bananas.<\/p>\n
