At Riverbank, the Primary 5 to Primary 7 classes participate in Pupil Interest Groups. These Groups aid in the running of the school and bring to fruition the ideas and suggestions that the pupils, themselves, would like to see developed in the school. The Pupil Council is one of these groups and it has members from Primary 1 to Primary 7. The children are elected to the Pupil Council through a secret ballot. For the other groups, the children can sign up to where their ‘interest’ lies.<\/p>\n

The groups include the Pupil Council, as already mentioned, the RRSA Group, Gardening Group, Peer Mediators, Play Pals, Playground Improvement Group, School Newspaper Group, Library Group and the Eco Group. These groups meet every four to six weeks and the pupils bring to their groups things that they would like developed at Riverbank. Much of our playground equipment was bought when the children requested these items through the Playground Improvement Group and the Pupil Council. The Eco Group have organised Lights Out Days and this just gives a flavour of what our pupils are involved in.<\/p>\n

At a recent assembly, the groups reported to the whole school on the work they were involved in and reminded the pupils of how they can use these groups to make improvements at Riverbank. It was extremely interesting to find out what the pupils had been doing in their groups and how this was helping the whole school. So, if you have an idea that you would like to see put in place at Riverbank, contact one of these groups and share your idea!<\/p>\n
