On Thursday 2 March, Mrs Ng’s class organised and held a Fairtrade coffee morning. They wanted to raise the level of awareness among parents and staff of the importance of Fairtrade.<\/p>\n

The pupils organised all the tray bakes and provided lovely pots of jam and small jars of butter. This went well with lovely pancakes which were available for eating. Having said all of that, my favourites were the very calorific 55s. These were lovely sweet biscuits made with 5 of all the ingredients required….oh! and a can of condensed milk!<\/p>\n

Andy Ashcroft visited Riverbank, as well, and gave a talk on Fairtrade school uniform which can be purchased as an alternative to our normal supplies of school uniform. Interestingly, he also said that there are only two countries in the world which have achieved Fairtrade status: Wales and Scotland! He also told us that there is more Fairtrade purchases made in Scotland than in the whole of the USA.<\/p>\n

P6-7B and Mr Nicoll’s P3B entertained our visitors with some lovely singing \u00a0and some staff and a member of the Parent Council were on hand to deal with the hot water required for cups of tea and coffee. A great effort went in to the whole event and a lovely touch was added with some beautiful floral table decorations.<\/p>\n

I am sure that Mrs Ng’s class would like me to thank all parents, carers, friends and staff who participated in the coffee morning. You all made a donation towards Fairtrade and helped the pupils have a successful enterprise project.<\/p>\n

I will, certainly, be looking for Fiartrade goods when I go shopping!<\/p>\n
