A few weeks back, as I was waking along the corridor, I was asked, what seemed to be, a rather strange question. I was asked if I knew Old Aberdeen. As a child being brought up in the area I responded by saying that, of course, I knew Old Aberdeen. The pupil who asked me was very excited as the class were going out to find out about Old Aberdeen. It made me think of the fact that I took for granted that I knew a bit about the history of the area and some of the wonderful stories that go along with that knowledge. I hadn’t thought that what I took for granted was something awe inspiring for our pupils. I chatted with the pupil and said that I was sure that their trip to Old Aberdeen would be fascinating and that the whole class would learn lots of new things about the area and enjoy themselves at the same time.<\/p>\n

The class involved was Mrs Lade’s Primary 3 class and they were going on a fact finding tour of Old Aberdeen with Alan Paterson. The tour included visiting all the historically important sites in the Old Aberdeen area and Alan explained about the names of places.<\/p>\n

The children were very enthusiastic about their visit and were keen to share their learning with me. Next time you’re out and about in the area, you might like to ask some of the children a bit about the history of the area; it’s fascinating!<\/p>\n
