Pudsey Power at Riverbank!!!! Fantastic Fundraising by Everyone at Riverbank!!!!

pudsey_piperFriday 18 November was Children in Need Day but as this was an in-service day for the staff and pupils at Riverbank, we held our fundraising for Pudsey and Children in Need on Thursday 17 November.

This year, each class or group of classes arranged a fundraising event for themselves but they could invite their school friends to attend, too. There was a variety of different activities to enjoy. We had a Primary 1 Disney Dance-a-thon, the Primary 2s had a Pyjama Party, Primary 3A ran a Talent Show…eat your heart out X Factor, whilst Primary 3B tired themselves out raising lots of money on a sponsored walk, the Primary 4 classes made scrummy bakes, Primary 5B appealed to the sweet tooth in us and ran a Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar competition, Primary 5B also held a pyjama party and it’s amazing what people wear at bedtime, Primary 6-7A had a Lego Competition, Primary 6-7B made some delicious cakes and last but not least, Primary 6-7C had a Crazy Hair Day and my goodness it was CRAZY!!! The nursery joined, too, by decorating and selling biscuits, Mrs Smith’s class made Pudsey biscuits and Mrs Spry’s class sold some fruity smoothies. On top of all of this, there were lots of people dressed in yellow or wearing spots and even dressed in yellow and wearing spots.

The Primary 1 classes raised their funds, as I previously reported, by holding a Disney Dance-a-thon. It was a really fun afternoon with lots of dance-along, sing-along favourites like Under the Sea and Frozen, to name but two. Just as well there was an in-service day on the Friday, so they could all recover!!!

Primary 6-7C – Miss Rowley’s class – decided to have a Lego competition. Their models were excellent and full of imagination. The models were judged by two of our post graduate students, Mr Doyle and Miss Ashmore, had the very unenviable task of judging the winner! You can see for yourself their studious looks as they carried out the judging. Well done to all who entered.

One of the big money spinners was Primary 3B’s – Mr Nicoll’s class – sponsored walk. What a lot of money they raised! They were inspired by Usain Bolt and posed like him when they had completed their walk.

Mrs Smith’s class made Pudsey biscuits and did some selling of Children in Need goodies.

Mrs Ng’s class were supported in their efforts to fund raise by Miss Ashmore. The class made some of the ‘finest’ biscuits/cakes that I’ve tasted for a long time and they ran their own cake stall in the dining hall where there was a roaring trade in their own brand ‘Riverbank’s Finest’. This roving reporter would enjoy some more of these tasty treats.

One of the most unusual fundraising ideas came from Primary 6-7C, Mrs Ullah’s class. They decided to have a Crazy Hair Day. The title says it all. As many people in the class had to come into cl Eass with the craziest hairdo they could muster. They excelled themselves with some of the most wonderful coiffures I’ve seen in my life. Even Mr Doyle and Mrs Ullah joined in. Unfortunately, I couldn’t duck out of this one and I was asked to judge the winner of the craziest hair. It was such a difficult task. There was the hairdo with the balloons, yes you read it right…balloons, there were some fantastic coloured jobs and I did have a degree of sympathy with boys who didn’t have as much hair to work with as the girls but they too did a splendid job. However, the effort which caught my eye was the cupcake invention. The winning young lady had her hair in a bun and made into a cup cake, complete with icing and sprinkles. John Frieda and Nicky Clarke had better not rest on their laurels as there were some great hairstylists in P6-7C.

There was a great atmosphere in school and we would like to thank all the pupils and their parents and carers as well as the members of staff who supported this fun day. We raised lots of money for Children in Need, the final total being an outstanding £945.71! Can you believe it? We couldn’t. We even asked the school administrator to do a recount! What a fantastic achievement and we’re sure the money will go to help Children in Need somewhere in Scotland! Well done to everyone!
