Riverbank Extension Opening
Riverbank Extension Opening
Everyone at Riverbank was excited about the official opening of the Riverbank extension. This provided the school with some, much needed, extra space and facilities. Many parents, invited guests and VIPs turned out for this special occasion on Friday 22 November 2014. A piper was on hand to pipe everyone into school for the grand opening. Jenny Laing, the convener for Education, Culture and Sport was present and made a speech on behalf of Aberdeen City Council who provided the budget for the building work. The school also took the opportunity to celebrate Riverbank’s fifth birthday at the same time.
A brand new gym hall was built. This allowed PE lessons to take place right up to lunch and start again, immediately, after lunch as the old hall could be used as a dining hall and not be shared with PE.
Four new classrooms were provided which eased the pressure on finding class space. The classrooms were kitted out with state of the art SmartBoards with built in and moveable data projectors and speakers. New toilets were provided for the pupils and staff.
Part of the old hall was converted into a new a roomier staffroom which was greatly appreciated by teachers and PSAs alike as, with the growth of the school community, there was offten a rush to find a seat in the old staffroom.
The office staff were provided with new office facilities which were far more spacious than their previous, cramped, little cubbyhole. A new telephone system was fitted which allows much quicker and easier contact with most of the classes in school.
The Management Team weren’t forgotten either and a new management suite was created for the Head Teacher and two Deputes. All three are ensconced together and sadly, for them, it makes them much easier to find!
A number of other bits and pieces have to be completed and we hope to have the old offices converted into a further resource for the pupils of Riverbank.
