Archie in Africa Campaign Visits Riverbank

Better Late Than Never

Archie in Africa LogoRiverbank held a special assembly on Tuesday afternoon for a special guest, Emma Slessor, from the Archie Foundation who came to visit us to tell us all about the Archie in Africa Day Appeal.

Presentation
Emma tells us all about the Archie in Africa Appeal.

Archie in Africa Day was, actually, last Friday 27 March 2015 but as we had a very busy timetable, it was decided that Riverbank would hold their Archie in Africa Day on Wednesday 1 April 2015….. and before anyone says….. it’s not an April Fool! We really are having a fundraiser for Archie in Africa.

The campaign is to raise funds to build a ‘for children only, operating theatre for the Mulago and Naguru Hospitals in Kampala, Uganda and to help improve facilities for parents who are attending hospital with their children.

Emma helped us understand how lucky we are. An overnight stay for parents in Uganda would result in them having to sleep on a bed roll, on the floor underneath the hospital bed of their child! Here, in Aberdeen at ARCHie, parents who need to stay overnight to be with their children are allocated a room with a pull down bed. Even the waiting room facilities in Uganda are overcrowded and the facilities on the wards at ARCHie, with video games, books, toys etc are a far cry from what is available for the sick children in Kampala.

Q&A Session
Emma followed up her presentation with a question and answer session.

I have attached a link to the Archie in Africa website, so if you want to find out more about the appeal, you can.

How are we going to help? This afternoon we are having a showing of the film, The Lion King and we are asking you to make a donation of £1. There may also be some popcorn on sale, too! Let’s hope we can raise some money to help ARCHIE in AFRICA!
