Internet Safety Session for Parents

If you’ve read Mrs Ironside’s recent letter about internet safety, you should be interested in this.

internet-safety3Recently, it was reported at Riverbank that some of our pupils had been subjected to some quite obscene activities while they had been, innocently, chatting to one another via a social media website. Their chatroom was infiltrated by a male adult who was responsible for these activities. Some of the children reported this to their parents and also to a member of management in Riverbank. Riverbank contacted the police due to the serious nature of the incident. All the relevant information has been handed on to the police and, hopefully, the perpetrator will be traced.keep-safe-on-the-internet-4

As a result of this, we have invited Police Scotland – Constable David Orr, who is attached to St Machar Academy, to come into Riverbank on the Monday 7 March to talk to parents about how you can help to keep your children safe on the internet. The session will only last 30 mins and will be from 2.30pm until 3.00pm meaning that you will still have time to collect your youngsters at the end of the school day.

Please, if you can, find time to come along to this Parents Session and find out more. The internet is a great ‘tool’ for us all to use but the safety of our children is paramount!
