Riverbank Pupils Present to The Aberdeen Play Forum

It’s always exciting times at Riverbank and you never know what you’ll be asked to participate in next! That was the case on Monday morning.

We were invited, by The Aberdeen Play Forum, to make a presentation on ‘The Rights of a Child to Play’. This event was to take place at the Function Suite at the cafe at Hazlehead Park. At the last Pupil Interest Group Meeting, the RRS Group discussed what play meant to them and what they liked and what they would like more of. The discussion was very interesting and covered a wide range of topics including outdoor play, Rainbow Time, visits by theatre companies, play parks and activities which could be available at Seaton Park.

With the help of the information gathered from the pupils, we put together a PowerPoint presentation on the subject of ‘The Rights of a Child to Play and What Play Means to Us!’ Three of our senior pupils (two from the RRS group and one from the Pupil Council) took home the script to practise before making the presentation on Monday morning to the people gathered for the AGM of The Aberdeen Play Forum.

Our senior pupils were interested to experience the running of an official meeting with a balance sheet and voting all taking place before they were asked to step up and inform the meeting with their presentation.

They had an excellent and attentive audience and made a fabulous job of presenting to a room of adults! They even took some questions before being able to relax with some juice and a ‘fine piece’ whilst listening to Kittybrewster School who were also presenting. The pupils also took part in a workshop for the Forum giving suggestions to improve play in facilities and support in Aberdeen.

Miss Hampton and I were so proud of our pupils who did such a grand job of delivering the message on play, being so polite and respectful and they were a credit to Riverbank. Let’s not forget, either, the pupils whose ideas went to making the presentation. It was Team Riverbank work.
