Cinema Night Raises Funds for Ugandan Children

As I’m sure you are all aware, Riverbank has close links with Kamuli Township School in Uganda. Miss Arnott, Miss Rowley and Mrs Ironside visited the school in October 2016 as part of the Tilly Vision Project. The pupils at Riverbank decided that they would like to continue to support the children in Kamuli by sponsoring two children at each of the Primary stages…so the P1s at Riverbank would sponsor two P1 children at Kamuli, the Riverbank P2s would sponsor two Kamuli P2 children and so on. This sponsorship would include paying for the children to be educated. The Primary 4-7 pupils would be provided with boarding accommodation. There are no boarding facilities for the P1-3s. The sponsorship would also include payment for all the equipment that the children would need. This would include:

  • Mattress
  • Blanket
  • Bed sheet
  • Mosquito net
  • Steel box
  • Sponge
  • Jerry can
  • Basin
  • Sandals
  • Soap 6 bars per term
  • Vaseline

To this end, Primaries 4B and 4N, Miss Bennett’s and Mr Nicoll’s classes ran a cinema night to raise some funds for the Primary 4 children at Kamuli. You had to attend in your PJs but there was popcorn and drinks on hand. The evening was held at St George’s Church and thanks to the Rev Weir and Bill Mitchell for giving use of the church’s cinema facility.

A good night was had by all those who attended and watched a special showing of The Boss Baby and their enjoyable evening raised £50 towards the education of a Primary 4 pupil in Kumali. Well done everyone!
