Riverbank Pick Up A Pair of Awards at the CYPSA Ceremony!

The annual Children and Young People’s Services Awards Ceremony was held on Monday evening at the Beach Ballroom. Riverbank had been shortlisted in three award categories.

Along with Manor Park, Bramble Brae and Tullos Schools, Riverbank was shortlisted in the Children and Young People’s Champion Award. This award was to be given to children who had worked hard to bring attention to the thoughts and ideas young people have about their lives. The four schools were nominated as part of the Children’s Parliament initiative on ‘Imagining Aberdeen’. The children involved were ‘Imagineers’, imagining how they would like Aberdeen to be. The children produced an amazing mural, which you may have seen on display in school some months back. A film was also made and some of Riverbanks pupils were able to view the film at the Belmont Cinema. The children have also presented to members of the council and, most recently, to the Head Teachers’ Meeting. Wow! Lucky them, being able to speak to all the head teachers in Aberdeen, and telling them how they see Aberdeen. How brave were they? The nomination was read out and the Golden Envelope was opened to announce the ‘Imagineers’ had won and the pupils went up to collect the award.

We were, also, shortlisted in the Learning for Sustainability Award. This award is given to the person or group of people or school which the judges felt had done most to promote global citizenship and children’s rights among other things. The tension built as the nominations were read out and we awaited the opening of the Golden Envelope. We thought one of the other nominees would win but we were absolutely delighted when Riverbank was announced as the winner!

The third nomination was for the Schools’ Award. There were seven nominations in this category and the winners were Middleton Park School. They had received an excellent HMIE report and were worthy winners. We were not too disappointed as we hade been successful in the other categories.

The pupils and PSA who were with the Management Team at the evening enjoyed the occasion and the entertainment from various schools which punctuated the evening. The food was good too!

A big thank you to all pupils, staff and parents and carers who have all helped in Team Riverbank having another successful year!
