Riverbank’s Primary 6s have Kid Power!!!

At Riverbank, we were very fortunate to be chosen to take part in a pilot for UNICEF’s Kid Power program.

The UNICEF Kid Power School Program promotes fitness and global citizenship among primary school children. The program consists of a teacher-led classroom experience that leverages easy-to-use technology and links with the curriculum. The technology includes UNICEF Kid Power bands for the children and classroom tablets for syncing and tracking progress, and also includes lessons, quizzes and games on malnutrition and global citizenship for keeping students inspired and engaged. UNICEF Kid Power gives children the power to help tackle malnutrition.

By getting active with the UNICEF Kid Power Band, kids go on missions to learn about new cultures and earn points. Points unlock funding and funds are used by UNICEF to deliver food packets of therapeutic food to severely malnourished children around the world. The more kids move, the more points they earn, the more for packets they send to help beat malnutrition. We made a very high contribution to this program and managed to send 300 food packets out of a total 10,401 sent from the Scottish  schools that took part.

Well done to our Primary 6s for all the food packets they contributed to help beat malnutrition. Special mention to Connor Horne, Murren Garden and Billy Swan who collected the most points for food packets and also to the P6s of P6-7A who came 11th out 38 classes, in Scotland, taking part in the pilot.

We hope that UNICEF will give us another opportunity to take part in Kid Power in the future. Once again, well done to everyone who took part and to Mr O’Sullivan for all the technical input!

Article 24 – Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must work to provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.
